TL;DR

Delegation to Everstake is non-custodial: the XTZ never leaves the delegator’s wallet, where Everstake runs the baker but cannot move or spend delegated tokens.

Full staking details ↓

  • XTZ stays liquid, with no lock-up and no slashing risk.

  • Rewards are paid every 1-day cycle, the first about 5–6 days after delegating. Everstake keeps a 15% fee.

  • Rewards come straight from the protocol, start accruing immediately, and carry 3Ă— the baking weight of delegated XTZ.

  • XTZ must be delegated before it can be staked.

Delegate or stake XTZ: which Tezos option fits you

Delegate XTZ to Everstake when the XTZ must stay spendable at any moment and carry zero slashing risk.

Stake XTZ with Everstake when a higher reward per XTZ is the priority over instant liquidity: staked XTZ counts 3 times as much as delegated XTZ toward the baker's baking power, but it is frozen while staked and takes up to 4 days to release.

Holders can also split a balance: stake the part held long term, keep the rest delegated. For a full walkthrough, see Everstake's introduction to Tezos staking.

Delegating XTZ to Everstake: 15% fee, no lock-up, and the Tezos staking calculator

Delegating XTZ to the Everstake baker pays rewards once per cycle, with no lock-up and no slashing exposure. Delegated XTZ stays spendable; any transfer out reduces the delegated balance.

How to delegate to Everstake

  1. Open stake.tezos.com or a wallet that supports delegation.
  2. Connect the wallet that holds the XTZ.
  3. Search for Everstake, or paste tz1aRoaRhSpRYvFdyvgWLL6TGyRoGF51wDjM.
  4. Confirm the delegation operation in the wallet.

The Tezos staking calculator on this page estimates delegation rewards at the 15% Everstake fee, using the current delegation rate, it does not model staking.

Everstake's Tezos baker: address, custody and how to start

Everstake is a baker, Tezos's term for a validator: it produces and attests blocks with the stake assigned to it and never takes custody of that stake.

  • Baker address: tz1aRoaRhSpRYvFdyvgWLL6TGyRoGF51wDjM
  • Baking since: 14 April 2020
  • Staked + delegated: 57,329,636 XTZ, as of [DATE]
  • Consensus key: tz4 (BLS), the key type that lets bakers aggregate attestations since the Seoul upgrade (September 2025)

Delegating and staking XTZ with Everstake are both non-custodial. The XTZ stays in the holder's own wallet, and Everstake, as baker, can bake with that stake but cannot move or spend it.

Risks of delegating and staking XTZ

Risks for delegation and staking differ.

  • Delegation: no slashing and no lock-up. The downside is lower rewards if the baker misses blocks, or if the baker is overdelegated, meaning delegated XTZ exceeds 9 times the baker's own staked XTZ and the excess earns nothing.
  • Staking: staked XTZ is frozen, takes up to 4 days to release, and stays slashable until released. A double-baking penalty costs 5% of the baker's stake, and double attesting can cost more; stakers lose the same share as the baker.
  • Both options: XTZ price moves while delegated or staked, and transaction fees apply to every operation.

What Tezos is: liquid proof-of-stake, on-chain governance and formal verification

Tezos is a smart-contract blockchain that upgrades itself through on-chain votes, without hard forks. It uses liquid proof-of-stake: XTZ holders delegate or stake with bakers, who produce blocks and vote on protocol upgrades with the combined weight of their delegators. Tezos also supports formal verification of smart contracts.

The protocol parameters on this page reflect Ushuaia, the 21st Tezos upgrade, active since 30 June 2026. Recent upgrades shaped them: Rio (May 2025) cut cycles to 1 day and unstaking to 4 days, and Tallinn (January 2026) cut block time to 6 seconds.
