TL;DR
- Everstake, Inc. maintains an institutional insurance program with 3 lines of coverage.
- Client assets are non-custodial, remain under the client’s control at all times, and are not the subject of Everstake’s insurance.
Institutional clients now assess staking providers through formal vendor due diligence, and insurance coverage and contractual safeguards are standard items in those reviews.
Everstake is introducing an institutional insurance program as another step in developing the company as an institutional staking provider and is one part of a broader risk management framework for institutions that stake with Everstake.
What the program covers
The Everstake program covers professional liability and corporate risk:
- Technology Errors & Omissions. Everstake carries Technology Errors & Omissions insurance in respect of its professional liability to clients. This coverage applies subject to the terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions of the applicable policy.
- D&O and Commercial Crime. These policies complement Everstake’s broader approach to corporate and operational risk management.
Non-custodial
Client assets are non-custodial and remain under the client’s control at all times. They are not held by Everstake and are not the subject of Everstake’s insurance.
Everstake’s insurance program supports specified corporate and professional risks. It does not insure the underlying digital assets.
Insurance works alongside the other safeguards Everstake provides to institutional clients:
- Infrastructure safeguards: operational controls and validator infrastructure designed to reduce the likelihood of service disruption and protocol-related incidents.
- Service-level commitments: custom client agreements that set service levels and operational obligations.
- Reimbursement terms: where applicable, contractual terms that address reimbursement for qualifying losses. These provisions are separate from insurance coverage.
Slashing risk is addressed through Everstake’s operational safeguards and custom SLA and reimbursement terms in Everstake’s client agreements.
Everstake’s risk safeguards are part of its independently assessed control environment, including SOC 2 Type II and ISO/IEC 27001:2022. The full certification list is on the Everstake Security & Compliance page.
